New Nutrition Concept

Dear parents,

We are very pleased that we can start with a revised nutritional concept and a new catering partner from 31 August 2020! A balanced and varied diet is the best basis for healthy growth in children. Our new catering provider „SMEILEY’S“ also sees it this way and is relying on its own well thought-out nutrition concept for day-care centres.

We have chosen SMEILEY’S as our partner because they offer a wide range of choices, cook food especially for children and have a proven commitment to quality. The aim is a varied and healthy diet with ingredients from Mother Nature without industry!

SMEILEY’S deliberately avoids pasta and instead uses healthy alternatives from Mother Nature, such as potatoes, polenta, rice, cous cous, rolling barley, beans, wheat, peas, lentils, chickpeas and beans. A wide range of pleasures can be offered through varied cooking: Boiled potatoes, potato gratin, fresh homemade mashed potatoes, fried potatoes (in their skins), rice, risotto, red Camargue rice, basmati rice, red, black, white and borlotti beans, instead of wheat also rye and spelt grains, green and yellow peas.

Each menu contains two fresh vegetable components, two side dishes (no pasta) and one main course (meat, poultry, fish or veggie menu).

It is a matter of course to avoid the use of preservatives, flavour enhancers (mono-sodium glutamate) as well as artificial colourings and sweeteners in the selection of the recipes used.

Market-fresh and regional vegetables are used for the menu design. In the composition of the menu, great importance is attached to the colours and the cutting technique, among other things. The meals are prepared and delivered fresh every day. This enables us to avoid standing times and thus ensure the ideal preservation of vitamins and nutrients.

The vitamin and starch supplements are supplemented by a Swiss meat, chicken, egg/cheese and vegetarian dish or fish dish (freshly caught from Europe, supplier Bianchi). Only Swiss meat, Swiss chicken (no pork), exclusively fresh salmon fillets from Norway, Swiss cheese, Swiss dairy products are used.

As parents of the MURMELI HUUS you are also welcome at SMEILEY’S! You can visit the kitchen facilities in Zurich-Oerlikon and enjoy a free lunch (address: Berninastrasse 43, 8057 Zurich).

At the beginning of 2021 we will visit SMEILEY’S with the children and get to know the kitchen world of the gastronomes in a playful way. A visit to the igloo village („freezer room“) of SMEILEY’S will round off the day.
